I’m sure you can relate when I say, “standing out on social channels can be a pain in the butt.”

Needless to say, there are simple things that can be implemented in your content creation strategy that can help you stand out.

In this blog, I will break down everything you need to know about becoming a successful content creator in 2020.

Who is a content creator?

A content creator is a person who shares digital media to build a brand around a specific niche. Such content may include written content, graphics, video, and any other form of media.

What does it mean to be a content creator?

Being a content creator means;

#1: Offering consistent value on a regular basis

Successful Content creators that are consistent tend to build more successful brands. Consistency means a commitment to solving your audience’s problems.

It also means building trust and authority in your niche. Additionally, it increases your brand awareness.

#2: Solving a problem for a specific group

You are not just a content creator, you are a business. That means you understand your audience’s pain points. Thus, you create tailor-made solutions for them.

#3: Understanding your audience and produce content in their language

It would be so weird if you used professional terms in a kid’s book. They wouldn’t understand it.

Not because your content is not true but because children don’t communicate like that. This applies to your target audience as well.

#4: Creating content for the people and not for yourself

This is the oldest rule in the book. You create content to attract people that need a solution.

It would thus make no sense to want to attract people by targeting yourself.

How do I become a content creator?

Becoming a successful content creator takes a lot of effort.

Ultimately, a good content creator is one that makes an impact and even a living off of content creation.

Below is a checklist;

#1: Understand who you are

The biggest edge you’ll ever have on your competitor is the love for what you do.

You never want creating content to feel like a chore. Otherwise, you will feel drained and exhausted.

Don’t get it twisted, you develop your passion from the interests you have.

Once you understand the interest you want to develop, content creation becomes fun. If you don’t know what those interests are, take a social media detox.

Sometimes, our sense of self tends to get distorted when exposed to social media for long.

#2: What do you want people to know you for?

The content you create is the content people will know you for. If you create content around bikini fashion every other day, you’ll attract a certain crowd.

Therefore, people will come to you when looking to buy fashionable bikinis.

Your content is a magnet for a certain audience. That brings me to my third point.

#3: Understand who you want to target

Since content is a magnet, the first thing to do is to identify the kind of people you want to attract. You can start by creating a persona for your content.

  • What is their personality?
  • How do they consume information?
  • Where do they hang out?
  • What are some of their pain points?

An example of a pain point in the health and wellness industry;

“I always feel like I’m not good enough and nothing I do ever seems to succeed. I am afraid of failing and hence take little to no risk.”

They desire to feel loved, seen, and empowered.

Thus, a successful piece of content would be one that addresses that pain and provides a solution.

#4: Know the channels you want to reach them through

Where does the majority of your audience exist? Go there.

For the visually appealing businesses, TikTok and Instagram seem to work well. Such businesses include beauty, art, and fashion.

As a new content creator, it would be weird if you started growing your bikini brand on LinkedIn. That’s not where the majority of your audience is.

#5: Understand what you want to achieve and KPIs

What are some of the goals you want to achieve?

As a successful content creator, you are not just a personal brand, you are also a business.

And you have to think like that or you’ll end up wasting a lot of your time creating content that has no return.

#6: Understand what your goals are. And then create systems to achieve those goals.

Let’s assume your goal is to gain 10k YouTube subscribers in 3 months.

That means you’ll need to create videos in a certain way and at a certain frequency. Additionally, your distribution game needs to aggressive.

You cannot expect to get to 10k with the same efforts you were making at 200subs a year.

#7: Become creative and different when it comes to content creation

Good enough is no longer good enough. There is no excuse for mediocre content today.

I’m not sure if you have noticed this, but when you scroll any social media feed, a lot of content looks the same.

It’s like people went to the same meeting and learned the same strategies. The bio has the same structure as everyone else and the presets are similar.

When you strive to be like someone else, you sell yourself short and you reduce your chances of standing out.

Hence, strive to be different. Deliver your message in a way that’s understandable to you and digestible to your target audience.

#8: Aggressive distribution

There’s a verse in proverbs that says, “a lazy person will always be poor but an aggressive person will always be rich.”

So, when it comes to distribution, please distribute it with passion.

I know it can come off weird especially if you are the kind of person that doesn’t like to invade people’s space.

But in a world full of mediocre content, your audience craves your amazing content.

Remember, it takes about 7times of someone seeing your content for them to understand it.

How do you create good content?

A lot of people call themselves content creators or influencers. Most of these people are mediocre and I don’t like to say that but it’s true.

Great content creators;
  • Creating IMPACTFUL content for their audience
  • Understand their target audience’s pain points
  • Solves a problem for their audience/adds value
  • Are leaders and not followers
  • Don’t market at their audience but with them
  • Are consistent
  • Measure their efforts
  • Don’t pretend to be one thing and act another way behind closed doors.
  • Create unique content and not copy-pasting from other creators
  • Read a lot in your niche
  • Don’t withhold information

What To Do When You Don’t Know What To Create?

There’s this whole concept that cripples a lot of millennials. And that’s finding the ONE TRUE PASSION.

Don’t fall into the trap of thinking that your passion will strike you like lightning. Oh No, you will need to develop your interests as discussed above.

So, my sweet darling, if you don’t know what to create, create anything. Document your day from morning to evening in the form of pictures.

The act of creating may trigger something in you.

Here are some of the content creation tips that would benefit you.

#1: Know your why

The confusion comes when you post for the sake of posting. Becoming a successful content creator involves knowing why you’re creating content.

Don’t forget to make tangible goals behind that.

#2: Create the kind of content that resonates with your audience

Diverse media like a podcast of video are a great way to connect with your audience deeper.

#3: Create week by week content

You don’t need to create content for a whole month. As a matter of fact, that may be the reason you are wasting so much time.

Create a week by week content. That can be 14-18 posts depending on your frequency.

You always want to have some backup content just in case you get sick.

#4: Repurpose content like a boss

Repurposing content will make your work easier and save you a tremendous amount of time.

The best way to do that is by creating a weekly blog.

That means a weekly supply of captions for LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram. It could also be a youtube script.
