Yeah, you won’t learn to build a personal brand from watching a youtube video, listening to a podcast or even reading a blog. Just like you cannot learn to ride a bike from reading a manual or watching a youtube video.
At one point, you’ll need to gather yourself and put yourself out there where true learning happens.
Why you’d rather not take action
1. You’ve created a habit of procrastination
Procrastination is one of the worst habits to have because it hinders your ability to build a personal brand that is consistent.
It’s one of those habits that waste your precious years. And I know because I’ve been there.
When you develop this habit for whatever reason, it becomes your identity. You become the person that never gets things done. You self-sabotage consistently and you never really maximize your brand’s potential.
As a solopreneur, if you have this habit, you’re probably been stuck in your business for some time. You probably haven’t executed just yet or if you have, you’re putting very minimal effort which has yielded very little growth.
2. You expect to fail
When you expect that failure will be the result of taking action, you don’t take action. This is a mindset problem that could have originated from your childhood. Or maybe you’ve failed so many times, it has become your default expectation.
This mindset will easily ruin your personal brand because it prevents you from starting. And even when you start, it prevents you from growing.
Remember, what you think about is what you bring about. When you constantly think of failing, you’ll fail. Why? Because you never take advantage of opportunities that you are qualified for.
Try putting a positive affirmation note on your bedroom door so that it’s the first thing you see when you arise.
3. You simply are lazy
Proverbs 4:10- Lazy hands make for poverty, but diligent hands bring wealth.
One of the fruits of laziness is poverty or in the case of your personal brand, no growth. If you’re constantly chasing fantasies and not actually posting content and engaging with your community, you will fail.
It’s not a matter of IF but a matter of WHEN. The only solution I know for laziness, especially when it comes to building a strong personal brand is taking action aka posting and engaging.
4. You do not trust yourself enough
When you’ve lived a big part of your life being afraid to put yourself out there, you lose trust in yourself. Believe it or not, you have to prove yourself to yourself.
If you constantly start things and finish them, you’ll have no problem starting things because you have a track record.
But, if you procrastinate all the time, start things and never complete them, you begin to distrust yourself. The result of this distrust is either not taking action at all or doing the bare minimum.
This will show up in your personal brand and you’ll either lose the trust of your followers or you won’t get far enough to build a following.
Benefits of taking action when it comes to your personal brand
Compounding the effect of taking action
Tiny habits create remarkable results. If you become worse every day, by the end of the year you’ll be 3% worse. On the flip side, when you become 1% better every day, you become 3800% better by the end of the year.
When you want to build a personal brand, posting and engaging daily will make your brand 3800% by the end of the year. Not only do you build trust when you take action, you also build authority and credibility.
You put yourself in a position to succeed
Any time you take positive action, be it towards your business or your personal life, you cast a vote towards success. When you do it enough times, you’ll be sure to strike a gold mine.
Satisfaction in taking action
There is a lot of satisfaction in taking action. As I said, I’ve been working out consistently for about 8months now and I enjoy being consistent.
It makes me feel great about myself and it helps me know that there’s nothing I cannot do if I put my mind to it.
Gives you clarity
You will never know how good or bad your ideas are unless you put them out there. When you decide to build your personal brand online, some of your ideas will be bad and others good.
The more you learn from your mistakes, the more refined your brand will be. Eventually, you’ll only be producing amazing ideas.
You build a habit of taking action
Taking action is a habit and a great one for that matter. When you become the man or woman of your word, you build a great reputation.
When it comes to personal branding, reputation is everything.
What happens to your personal brand when you don’t take action
You never know what could’ve happened
It’s sad just how many people die without ever attempting to go after their dreams. Or act when it’s too late.
When you don’t try, you will never know what could’ve happened. The best thing you can do is give yourself a shot to know for sure.
You miss your destiny
When God has called you to do something, please do it. Sometimes, your purpose lies in taking action and you may miss your destiny if you don’t take the necessary action.
Possibility of regret
If you’re too afraid to take action, there’s a very high chance that you’ll regret it. And by the time you’re ready to take the action, it might be too late.
You die with a high potential
Myles Munroe used to say, “die empty”. Whatever gifts you have, use them. You’re not meant to die with your gift, you’re meant to give it away.
Taking action and learning from that action is the only solution to building a strong personal brand.
